The star has donated the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the MVT, which works to preserve the UK's small concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the cheque on October 16 as his third album his work was chosen as the best record of the past year.

The musician has chosen to donate the funds to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function small stages played in his early career.

"I personally would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the performances I did around the area, and beyond, when I was just getting going," said Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these locations have shut down – roughly 16 percent of the total UK scene.

In the last year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their admission fees, which supports local stages.

Sam Fender also joined in, collecting over £100k on his live tour to assist 38 local spots across the UK.

The donation supported locations that were confronting possible closure due to challenges stemming from water damage, blazes and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces obtained financial assistance in modernizing infrastructure and technical equipment that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The idea that revenue from concerts in major spaces supports the independent spots, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

He is among several artists to contribute his award winnings to charitable organizations.

When the band received the award in the year 1996 for their release their work, frontman Cocker stated that the act would give their winnings to the charity War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite shared her bounty across multiple charities, such as the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I contributed a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked new equipment," Ms Dynamite explained to outlets.

Two years ago, they contributed their funds to the local youth club that supported their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Also 1994 winners the group gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," stated vocalist the singer. "The money was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our victory impacted the lives of others."

Last week, the trust shared it had saved two local spots in south-east England, by placing them under community ownership.

The first in that area and the second in Bristol were bought under the public acquisition program, which is supported by a national body and enthusiasts who purchase "ownership units" in the properties.
